Described as from 'Biwa Lake, Shiga, Shiga, freshwater)' in Orti et al. (2004). This sample should be sent to Buth from Hirai, Kanazawa Univ., with Pungitius. '志賀' is located west to Lake Biwa ('Shiga'-town, merged in Otsu in 2007) and also near Kanazawa ('Shika'). Watanabe and Mori (2003: Natural History of Sticklebacks) concluded this specimen was from 'Shika' not 'Shiga', because no stickleback had been known from 'Shiga-town' and its haplotype is not similar to those of other Lake Biwa samples (see Watanabe et al., 2003: Zool.Sci.).
